The cold breeze has started blowing and before it gets further chilly, you want your boiler to start functioning properly. Boiler service or boiler repair, whatever is required, is on your mind; but somewhere deep inside you, there is a DIY er that is stopping you from hiring a professional. So you need to find out whether you should go for DIY boiler servicing or not Well, to begin with, let us make it very clear that there is no term called DIY boiler servicing because it is ALWAYS done by a certified and professional heating engineer or a technician. But there are always certain things that you can consider to DIY. Yes, there is a term called DIY boiler maintenance and it is here that you can play your role well.

Start with simple checks
If you want to do it yourself, you can always begin with certain very simple checks. You can always check the breaks, water levels of your combi boilers and fuses. Turn on the boiler for some time and check whether it is working properly or not. Check for the obvious things like any breakdown in the boiler, improper water level and similar things. Once you have done this, DO NOT attempt to go for boiler servicing on your own, apart from cleaning off the dust. Always call the professional because your lack of technical knowledge can cause total boiler breakdown.

If you want to DIY, just dust off the boiler and keep it well maintained
As mentioned already, if there is one thing that is DIY, it is cleaning off the dust from the boiler on regular basis. Accumulation of dust can cause a loss to boiler. Once you have cleaned it, do not forget to find out good gas or heating engineers to get the task done. The modern day boilers, especially combi boilers are fitted with different components. Therefore, it is important that you should not open any component. Also, in case your boiler is too old, you can get boiler installers to fit in new combi boilers. In case, you think that the old boiler is good, simply go for minor boiler repair or boiler servicing, whichever is required.

Unless and until you are a boiler technician or gas engineer yourself, DIY boiler servicing should be avoided. An effort to save money by doing the boiler service yourself can only be temporary. It has been observed that even the best DIYers have failed at servicing and repairing the boiler, eventually shedding more money from their pockets. Also, it can be risky. Professionals are aware of all the technical components as well as processes to service, install or repair the boilers of any kinds. Therefore, it is absolutely wise to hire a professional instead of doing it on your own.

Definitely boiler safety is another reason you should NOT go for DIY servicing of your boiler. Norms, rules and regulations require you to have a proper training as well as tools for this task.
